Deformities: What To Look For
Mandibular Excess
- Teeth may be crowded
- When you bite, lower teeth are in front of upper teeth
- Lower jaw and lip protrude (jut forward)
- Upper jaw and lip are normal
Maxillary And Mandibular Protrusion
- Teeth may be crowded
- Upper and/or lower teeth protrude
- Upper and/or lower lips protrude
- Hard to close your lips
Nasal Deformities
- Hump on nose
- Upper and lower jaws and teeth are aligned properly
Orbital Rim Deformities
- Cheek bones are deficient in relation to rest of the face
- Upper and lower jaws and teeth are properly aligned
Chin Deformities
- Chin is prominent or deficient in relation to nose and lips
- Upper and lower jaw and teeth are properly aligned
Vertical Maxillary Excess With Open Bite
- Upper teeth protrude in front of lower teeth
- Chin appears to recede
- Face seems long
- Teeth are sometime crowded
- Upper molars and jaw have shifted down preventing front teeth
from touching
- Hard to close lips
Vertical Maxillary Excess And Mandibular Deficiency
- Lower teeth are behind upper teeth
- Teeth may be crowded
- Upper jaw has dropped down
- Upper teeth and gums show a lot below upper lip
- Face seems long
- Lower jaw and chin appear to be receded
Vertical Maxillary Excess
