Wisdom Teeth Removal
Wisdom tooth extraction is a surgical procedure to remove one or more wisdom teeth — the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth on the top and bottom.
If a wisdom tooth doesn't have room to grow (impacted wisdom tooth), resulting in pain, infection or other dental problems, you'll likely need to have it pulled. Wisdom tooth extraction may be done by a dentist or an oral surgeon.
To prevent potential future problems, some dentists and oral surgeons recommend wisdom tooth extraction even if impacted teeth aren't currently causing problems.
During the procedure we will make a small incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth and bone. We will then remove the bone that blocks access to the tooth root, divide the tooth into sections if its easier to remove in pieces, remove the tooth, clean the site of the removed tooth of any debris from the tooth or bone.
Following we will stitch the wound closed to promote healing(not always necessary), and place gauze over the extraction site to control bleeding and to help a blood clot form.
After the procedure, you're taken to a recover room. As you heal from your surgery, we will give you general instructions to follow on : bleeding, pain management, swelling and bruising, activity, beverages, food, cleaning, tobacco use, and stitches.
